Caucus for Equality - Tuesday, Feberuary 7, 2012

Minnesota needs you to Caucus for Equality

In 2010, too few fair-minded, pro-equality Minnesotans participated in the political process and the Minnesota Legislature lost its pro-equality majorities. In 2012, the stakes for LGBT Minnesotans and our state are higher than they've ever been before.

This is not the year to stay home.

Your precinct caucus starts at 7pm. It's a neighborhood meeting to discuss issues affecting your community and our state, and hear from candidates running for office.

If you really want to have an impact on the political climate in Minnesota, precinct caucuses are how you take hold at the grassroots level. The conversations you have and the issues you emphasize can influence the stance of Minnesota's political parties. When pro-equality Minnesotans like you are active in caucuses and conventions all over the state, your action moves Minnesota toward LGBT equality.

You may also get to hear from or meet with legislative candidates seeking party endorsement — especially if you become a delegate to the next convention.

Here are the things we're asking OutFront members to do:

  1. Talk to your neighbors about why marriage matters to you
  2. Run to be a delegate
  3. Introduce resolutions

After the Caucuses, tell us how it went. How did your conversation go? Were you elected as a delegate to the next level? Contact Organizing Director Chris Stinson at cstinson@outfront.org or 612.822.0127 x 7661.

OutFront Minnesota wants to help your caucus take a strong stand for treating all Minnesotans and their families with equality, fairness, and dignity. We know that the amendment to ban marriage for same-sex couples will be a hot issue in many caucuses this year, so we've also prepared talking points on marriage equality for you to bring to your caucus.
