Gay man killed by domestic violence

A man has been murdered in what Minneapolis police are calling the first same-sex domestic homicide in over two years.  The victim’s partner has been arrested.

This killing reflects the worst possible outcome for a problem that pervades our community on an ongoing basis – domestic violence.  The GLBT community has the same rate of domestic violence as couples in opposite-sex relationships (between 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 relationships) but this violence remains far more hidden.

If you or someone you know is in a relationship with an abusive partner, please call our 24-hour crisis line at (612) 822–0127 ext. 210 or (800) 800–0350 or you can email rwkloek@outfront.org

OutFront Minnesota also has an anonymous online reporting form or you may call us with an anonymous report at (612) 822–0127 ext. 214.  OutFront Minnesota provides a variety of services including individual crisis counseling and advocacy services.

Help prevent the type of fatal domestic violence in GLBT relationships that happened this week in MinneapolisDonate to OutFront Minnesota Community Services and help support our Anti-Violence Program.  We are the only provider of domestic violence and crime victim services specifically tailored for the GLBT community.  We also train other service providers to ensure that GLBT community members receive safe and effective services no matter where they go for help.

We all deserve to be safe in our relationships.
