City of Rochester Welcomes GLBT Families

According to the Rainbow Families newsletter, Rochester mayor Ardell F. Brede issued a proclamation in late January openly welcoming GLBT families as part of the city.

The text of the proclamation:


WHEREAS, Rochester, Minnesota is a city of great diversity of people, cultures, faiths, and languages; and

WHEREAS, The City of Rochester is committed to creating an inclusive community and promoting respect for all people; and

WHEREAS, The strength of a democratic society is based upon equal participation without prejudice of all people in the multitude of activities of our community; and

WHEREAS, Members of the Rainbow Families are meeting here today to plan and make significant contributions toward the enhancement of the quality of life in Rochester through active involvement in the economic, cultural, and civic progress of our City; and

WHEREAS, Members of the Rainbow Families and Allied Community are joining with many others in actively planning and working to help make Rochester a better place to live and work.

NOW THEREFORE: I, Ardell F. Brede, Mayor of the City of Rochester, do hereby proclaim, support and celebrate the diversity and contributions of all its citizens in this The Year of the Family.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the corporate seal of the City of Rochester to be affixed this 27th day of January in the year of Our Lord two thousand seven.
