Large Turnout for "For the Bible Tells me So"
Screening and Discussion

Many people came to Christ Lutheran Church across from the state
capitol to view the film "For the Bible Tells Me So" – a critical view
of religious attitudes toward GLBT people and how five religious
families confronted their beliefs after discovering one of their
children was gay.
"After the film, participants told their stories to and asked
questions of Minnesota couple Randi and Phil Reitan, one of the families
featured in the film, filmmaker Dan Karslake, and OutFront Minnesota
Anti-Violence Program Manager Rebecca Waggoner Kloek. Participants spoke
of the pain of being turned away by religious family members and the
exclusion of the "religious left" in the public dialogue about GLBT
people and their fight for equality."
But Dan Karslake also spoke about the hopefulness brought about by
adult gay children leading their parents into thinking more deeply about
GLBT equality. He told the story of one of the lesbian women in his film
calling him sobbing, to say that her mother (who is also in the film)
had finally asked about her partner for the first time in nine years.
