GLBT Center Update

Read Bill Burleson's article on the planned GLBT Center.

As many of you know, with the support of Councilmember Lisa Goodman, OutFront Minnesota has been given an opportunity by the City of Minneapolis to develop a piece of property into a Center which would serve the entire GLBT community.  We are in the very early (predevelopment stages) of the project.  This is a quick update on our efforts to spearhead the development of this important project.

Over the last few weeks, we have been conducting community input sessions in which approximately 60 people from various segments of our community including men and women, transgender Minnesotans, older and younger community members, folks from Greater Minnesota and People of Color have attended. Participants have actively engaged in discussions about the meaning that this center would have for them and talked about what they hope it might offer. The sessions were lively and everyone was passionate about sharing their vision and insight.  This is the first of several opportunities that community members will have to participate in the development of this center.

Thanks to our facilitator, public artist Teri Kwant, for leading these sessions in such an inspiring and thoughtful way. Thanks too to everyone who gave their time and talents to make this first phase a success.

Watch our E News and website over the next couple of months for more information about the Center Project.
