April 6th - Almost immediately after the Senate Judiciary
Committee defeated the propsed anti-marriage amendment, community
members began writing in to praise OutFront Minnesota's role in helping
organize the opposition testimony. Here are a few excerpts from what
they had to say:
I want to express my sincere thanks to all of the staff at OutFront
Minnesota for your efforts on behalf of Minnesota's GLBT citizens. It
seems to me that it is the leadership provided by OutFront Minnesota
that explains why Minnesota, unlike its neighbors to the east and west,
does not yet have a constitutional amendment planned for the November
ballot. Thank you!!
-Kevin H., Minneapolis
I want to thank all of OutFront for your hard work and the incredible
testimony you organized today. I was in the overflow room at the Capitol
and so impressed and moved by all of the speakers in opposition of the
amendment. As a new resident to the Twin Cities, I feel very lucky to
have OutFront MN advocating for GLBT equality. I know the "fight"
will continue, but my faith in OutFront is stronger than ever! Thanks
again for everything that you do,
-Abby Switkin, Assistant Director of Rainbow Families
Many, many congratulations on today's senate hearing! Opposition to this
amendment was well organized, compelling and thorough. It is a really
a privilege to be part of such a strong, vibrant and diverse coalition.
-Elaine Aron, Director of Justice Squared
I sat in the overflow room at the State Capitol today listening to the
pro and con arguments concerning the marriage amendment that were taking
place in Room 15. I wanted to hear what those who favor the amendment
had to say and I tried to keep an open mind when listening to both sides
of the argument. I have to tell you that [those] who testified against
this amendment totally blew away Sen. Bachmann and friends, and it
wasn't even close. All of you did just an outstanding job and deserve
to be commended and thanked - so "thanks" for all your hard work on this
issue.
-Wes D., St. Paul
This decision marks a great victory for all fair-minded citizens, but
with the legislative session continuing until May 22nd the battle isn't
over. Our opponents won't stop after today, and neither will we.
Now it's more important than ever to continue our momentum!
Here's how you can help us maintain the lead:
- Contact your senator and let them know you support fairness and
equality for ALL Minnesotans. You can find your legislative district
as well as contact information by using our
district finder.
- Attend justFair Lobby
Day at the Capitol on Thursday, April 27th. A strong showing is
critical to ensure the voice of GLBT equality is heard among our
legislators.
